In my dreams, I can feel my body tunneling towards something. If only I could tunnel down a little deeper. But the tunnels narrow as I hurtle through them in my sleep, until they become a trap of impossible knotted strands of hair...

Waking dreams, childhood memory, false memory, nostalgia for the things both lost and never had. The true tragedy of beauty is its transience, as flowers grow, bloom and die. My work tries to capture that which is transient, the memories and dreams that leave us so quickly.

I rely on feeling and instinct to choose which medium will best speak for the piece. Like weeds or ivy in a garden, my pieces grow where there is room for them. Every piece is a fresh start and a new situation. Neat rows and grids contain the order and chaos of my childhood gardens. Text, colors, shapes tangling together like roots of a plant to create something new. Like a plot of wildflowers, you never know what might grow within.

...The hair becomes the tangled roots deep in the soil of my gardens. Silent, deep under the earth, I feel safe knowing the somewhere above flowers are blooming.
